Story of El Mochilón

2008

First themed backpack trip

Continuing the 2003 Mochilón initiative, the theme was "Music"; this edition's backpack included a flute and a method for learning to play it.
200,000 children from almost all over the country had a musical instrument for the first time.

2009

The Eco-Backpack

More than 260,000 backpacks were donated, which included a memory game and an ecological booklet. This year, the Dondé Guardians Club was created, with almost 60,000 children enrolled, who received a fun ecological warden kit.

2011

National tour

For the first time, Mochilón launched the "Mochilón Dondé Caravan." Thanks to this, over 495,000 backpacks were distributed.

2012

The best year of backpacking

The "Mochilón Maya" edition was the most iconic, with over 600,000 backpacks distributed, each including a Maya Lottery ticket and a comic book from the Popol Vuh Saga.

2013

The world's largest backpack

The world's largest backpack was created, measuring 4.74m high and 3.53m wide. This year, there was also a partnership with Fundación Chespirito. Over 450,000 backpacks were donated, which included a nutrition booklet.

2018

A new direction

For 15 consecutive years, millions of school supplies were donated, and due to this great success, the "Mochilón" (Big Backpack) initiative was replicated by local and state governments. For this reason, Fundación Dondé redirected its donation strategies, providing 30,000 backpacks to 400 institutions with highly vulnerable populations.

2021

Return in events

With the corresponding sanitary measures (Covid-19), mass events are resuming. In this edition, 30,000 backpacks were donated.

2022 - 2023

Our Roots

This edition referenced our important cultural identity and roots. 12,000 backpacks were donated to institutions across the country. In 2023, the iconic Nación Tolteca backpack was launched, representing the message "We Are All Quetzalcoatl".
